Antec is readying the newest member of its Hundred series gaming PC cases, the Six Hundred. This is the sixth case in the series, following the Nine Hundred, Twelve Hundred, Nine Hundred Two, Three Hundred, and Two Hundred. This mid-sized ATX tower case is expected to fill the gap between the Three Hundred and Nine Hundred. It measures 491 (H) x 212 (W) x 492 (D) mm, and weights 6.9 kg. There are three exposed 5.25" drive bays, one exposed 3.5" bay, and five internal 3.5" bays. The front bezel provides enough breathing-room for its two front 120 mm fans. The side panel is windowed, and the window is perforated to hold a fan over the expansion slot area of the motherboard. One 120 mm fan ventilates the case from the rear-panel, while a large 200 mm TriCool blue LED-illuminated fan ventilates it from the top. The utility panel that holds buttons, and front-panel connectors is located at the top. The PSU bay is in its rightful place, at the bottom, and two ports for water-cooling tubing are located next to the seven expansion brackets. The Six Hundred is listed for pre-order in Europe, priced at 60.80 EUR.

AMD has just reported its third quarter results. The company made a net loss of $128 million, and its revenues amounted to $1.396 biilion, showing a 18% sequential increase, while falling by 22% compared to the same period of 2008.
“Strong demand for our product and platform offerings combined with disciplined execution resulted in AMD Product Company achieving profitability in the third quarter,” said AMD’s CEO Dirk Meyer.
AMD’s gross margin increased from 37% in Q2 to 42% in Q3, which should owe to the improved factory utilization rates, higher microprocessor average selling price and an increase in 45nm product shipments.
Things are evidently getting better for AMD, and hopefully they will get better profit in Q4 with the new lineup.

Samsung has just confirmed reports that there are tight supplies of DDR3, and warned that the shortages would last until the first quarter of next year, according to EETimes.
Keich Lee, manager of memory marketing for Samsung said that shortages of “DDR2 are more severe than DDR3″, and “DDR2 prices surpassed DDR3 at the end of September.”
“The PC market is better than we thought, but we’re cautious,” said Lee. “We’re at a sensitive point” in terms of market demand.
According to data provided by Hynix, Hynix and Samsung dominate the DDR3 market with a 45% market share respectively. Source: expreview.com |

The launch of Radeon 5800 series and subsequent launch of Radeon HD 5700 has been greeted by immense number of positive reviews, but NVIDIA appears to be weaker in this part. According to Fudzilla, its Fermi will not be available until Q1 2010.
Fermi will initially become available as a performance card, and we’ll probably have to wait until around March for the maintsream products.
Before that, AMD has a good chance to capture a big piece of the DirectX 11 market as they ship them several months before its biggest competitor.

G.Skill International Co. Ltd., manufacturer of extreme performance memory and solid-state storage with solid quality, has today released its ECO low voltage, 1.35V dual channel DDR3 memory for Intel Lynnfield Core i5 and Core i7 platforms.
Compared to the current DDR3 standard voltage of 1.65V, G.Skill's ECO memory modules require 18% less VDIMM. This can have a great contribution to power efficiency, environmental friendliness and ultimately saves G.Skill customers money. In addition, the lower voltages decreases a system's operating temperature, resulting in improved stability. G.Skill's own internal lab tests have revealed, 1.35V memory modules produce 16% lower temperatures than standard 1.65V memory.

There is news that several NVIDIA partners have decided to cancel GeForce GTX285 and GTX275 due to lack of supply.
The rumor does not seem to make much sense, as NVIDIA’s next-gen GPU Fermi will not be ready until next year. We’re not sure yet if this is just NVIDIA’s marketing strategy to keep the market hungry for Fermi, but according to Fudzilla, the availability of GTX260, GTX275 and GTX285 was so bad that many manufacturers plan to drop these products.
Anyway, just take it with a grain of salt for now before the issue is confirmed.

AMD has today taken the wraps of the highly anticipated Radeon HD 5700 series, and Unika has also been quick to unveil their own non-reference HD 5750 graphics card.
Based on the 40nm Juniper GPU, Unika HD 5750 is powered by 720 stream processors, and equipped with 1GB Hynix GDDR5 memory across 128bit memory interface, as well as core/memory clock of 700/1150MHz.
It provides HDMI+DVI+D-Sub connectivities, compared with dual DVIs, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs on the reference design. The HD5750 is based on 40nm Juniper GPU (215-0754009). Unika HD 5750 has employed 8 Hynix 32Mx32bit GDDR5 memory chips to form the spec of 1024MB/128bit.
Radeon HD 5750 only registered P7563 according to the 3DMark Vantage benchmark, which means its performance is basically equal to HD 4850.

Many analysts believe Windows 7 is going to significantly stimulate the PC sales, but Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO just doesn’t think so.
“There will be a surge of PCs but it will probably not be huge,” Ballmer said at a press conference in Munich. He also suggested that the tech sector would take some time to rebound to its former levels.
This is said to be a marketing strategy that Microsoft takes. They decides to play it safe and hopes the new operating system would turn out to be much better than what users have expected.

At the CEATEC Japan 2009 which was held from Oct 6th to Oct 10th, Sony showed off its 3D Full HD TVs. You’ll need to wear special 3D glasses, and you’ll be impressed with the lifelike 3D visual effects.
3D visual experience has become more and more popular. Many manufacturers have seen their opportunities and start to provide their own 3D solutions. You can purchase an expensive set of 3D device or settle yourself down to a low-cost solution just like Galaxy’s 3D glasses.

NVIDIA’s head of chipset development has recently confirmed that we can expect the Ion 2 chipset this year, but he didn’t lock down a specific month or quarter.
Ion 2 will support different Pentium 4 compatible processors including VIA’s Nano, Intel’s Atom and some ultra-low voltage processors. But it lacks support for the future processors such as Arrandale Core i5.
We don’t have many details yet, as the design depends on the customers.
