Design your own remote control

With this guide I'll show you how to make ne design for your remote control, be it for a tv, DVD, stereo, air conditioner or anything else...

After long and uneven fight my remote fell victim of gravity. Its Spirit* was healthy, but its body was shattered despite of the care i took for it.

A lazy man's choice would be to just buy brand new universal one and be done with it. I decide that I can make new body. I got the precise dimentions from the old one and draw in CorelDraw the new one. I pulled out a button from an old CD-rom (why you will find later).

I decided to make the new body acrylic, and since that must be done very precisely I find a place where it can be done for me. I used 2 and 5 millimetre sheets. It came out very well and along with the cutting I had one of the sheets engraved with the text for each button. Painted one of the buttons grill black in order to use it as background for the text.

The above mentioned Cd-rom button I soldered to the circuit board along with 2 green 6000mcd LED's. The idea behind this is to provide light at night for the engraved text. It's not necessary since I know which button is where, still it's quite cool. Heck, I can even use it as a flashlight.

I'm happy with the final result, the new body is just a bit larger compared to the old one.
