Recently we did a review on the newest Intel processor - Core i7, powered by the Nehalem core. Now is time to look closely at the motherboard that we used with it - ASUS P6T Deluxe. And start by that a series of reviews in which we'll test the abilities of the most interesting motherboards for the new Core i7 platform.
Throughout the last few years high -end ASUS products are preferred by the enthusiasts (be they gamers, overclockers or other performance freaks). Quite understandable really, knowing full well that the motherboards will be used in extreme configurations, ASUS adds a myriad of options in the BIOS, technologies for successful POST even after failed overclock, different overclock profiles (in which the different settings for your processors are kept settings like - 24/7 mode or extreme mode with dangerously high voltages just for benchmarking). But that's not all ASUS P6T Deluxe also has version that comes supplied with their new OC PALM device, a device that is essentially an external console allowing you to change frequencies and voltages in real time i.e. during testing!
ASUS P6T Deluxe offers this:
- Support of the Intel LGA1366 socket, Intel Core i7 and Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition processors
- Intel X58 North bridge
- Intel ICH10R South bridge
- Support of three channel DDR3 1600(OC)/1333/1066MHz memory, 6 slots, with maximum of 12GB RAM (6x2GB)
- 16 phase CPU powering design
- 3x PCI-Express x16 2.0 slots in x16 + x16 + x1 or x16 + x16 + x8 configuration with three cards
- 1x PCI-Express x4
- 2x PCI
- CrossfireX and NVIDIA SLI support
- 6x SATA 3GBps ports, supporting RAID 0, 1, 0+1 and 5 at the North bridge
- 2x SAS ports with Intel Matrix Storage Technology support and RAID 0 and 1 at the South bridge
- 1x xExternal SATA port (external SATA port) and 1 xUltraDMA 133/100/66 interface supporting up to 2 PATA devices through the Marvell 88SE6111 chip
- 2x Gigabit LAN ports through 2x Marvell88E8056® PCIe Gigabit LAN modules, supported by AI NET2
- 8 channel HD sound through ADI® AD2000B High Definition Audio CODEC
- 14x USB 2.0 ports, 6 on the back panel, 8 on additional headers
- 2x IEEE1394a Firewire ports (only one at the back panel), through the additional VIA® VT6308 controller
- ON/OFF and restart buttons on the motherboard
- ASUS OC Palm (only with certain motherboard versions)
Before we continue with the ASUS P6T Deluxe review, we must point out one thing - the architecture of the Core i7 platform will not be discussed in it. On behalf of it we talked in our Core i7 процесор - Intel 965 XE review.
