Page 3 - Tests and extra stuff

Extra stuff

We cleared out that all products from Belinea's o.line series are intended to offer high quality at low price. So to be expecting to have much extra stuff, great effort in design or any other details is unreasonable. Yes, o.display 4_24" has all the basic stuff, but it's clear that the company is protecting from bad sales it's pricey b.line series, thus cutting the extra things. Mos important of the missing things is the USB connectors on the monitor (a very convenient thing indeed, to be able to pin a flash drive in the side of the monitor instead of reaching for the PC, even more useful if you don't have front panel USB connectors :)) Also there are no settings profiles for movies, games, reading text and so on. We do find these to be a must, not many people constantly using them, but availability is nice thing. If you are accustomed to switching between modes this is a big and bright warning light for you ;).

Done with counting what's missing it is just to throw in a good word for the things that are present. Did we mention the great stand, the one that gives you very comfortable work space? The virtual menu on the other hand has nothing too fancy in it. Selection of few languages, manual geometry settings, positioning, colour and such. Things you aren't likely to have to set (after all, past changing of resolutions, just as any modern LCD, Belinea o.display 4_24" does set itself automatically, so you don't have to do a thing). Time to talk about the build-in speakers. Unlike in most monitors these are above middle class (for integrated ones that is). As far as office work is concerned they are perfect! Sound is fairly adequate. There is even some hints of mild bass coming out of the monitors plastic hollow. There is a even a 3.5mm audio jack, perfectly suitable for headphones.

Tests

We tested the monitor in four categories. Three of them are quite subjective - gaming, quality of picture in different pictures and watching High Definition Content video. The only synthetic test that could be done on o.display 4_24" DisplayMate. This test is aimed at helping you to set a monitor, as well as to reveal any defects in geometry, colour and picture quality.

Command and Conqueror Tiberium Wars

First of our tests was wit a favorite game - Command and Conqueror Tiberium Wars. In RTS games high resolution leads (when supported)to bigger playable area which is essential and beside more comfortable game can even give you ingame advantage. Definitely o.display 4_24" managed to charm us! The pleasure of playing at 1920x1200 is immense and the came is so colourful, with so much explosions and effects to allow you to get a better experience of the picture quality. And all that on the TN+FILM matrix of o.display 4_24", which gave the best that can be seen on such a display!

Unreal Tournament 3

The second test was on a modern 3D First Person Shooter - the famous Unreal Tournament 3. The engine of the game allows very dynamic gameplay, even at 1920x1200 on maximum derails, the framerate is above 60 and even 100 for a more "quiet"scenes. Ghosting or loss of frames is out of the question, after all this is a 2ms matrix, capable in theory to display 500 framer per second with no loss. Yes, these 2ms are activating/deactivating of the pixels in grey. With much brighter colours time for response would be slower, but still close to that value. If you play older games such as Quake 3, where frames could reach such values it would be wise to limit the framerate to say - 300 per second.

DisplayMate

What can we say about DisplayMate... Some of you surely remember Nokia Monitor Test. Well, DisplayMate is something like it. This fine software guides you upon setting up your monitor, so to get the best possible picture, revealing in the same time any defects in it (if your monitor can't pass any step f the test there might be a problem with it). Of course Belinea o.display 4_24" was perfect in each and every way, but we didn't expect anything else - Belinea has experience in these things, they took care to put their LCD's on the level
