Page 14 - Temperatures, Overclock
When talking for overclock, and especially for MSI N280GTX Super OC, we must not forget that it bares the "Super OC" for a reason. This happens to be one of the most highly factory overclocked cards on the market. Still for an hardware maniac that's never enough. So we decided to push the card to its limits. The frequencies reached were 720MHz for the core (measly 3% above the factory 700MHz for N280GTX Super OC, but a whole 20% above the referent 602MHz of a plain 280GTX) and 1250MHz for the memory, which is about 15% above the factory 1150MHz for N280GTX Super OC and little above 20% compared to the plain 280GTX.
As for the temperatures - the 280GTX cooler is well designed. Since MSI N280GTX Super OC uses referent cooler not more that what we've seen from 280GTX. As whole after initiating intense tests, the power saving modes shut down and the card rapidly heats up to 90 degrees centigrade (at 20 degrees room temperature) while remaining relatively quiet. After that the noisier fan mode kicks in lowering the temperature with 2-3 degrees, that are maintained regardless of how long after that you keep the card under load. While under heavy load and in that noisier mode, we DO call it noisy, but that matters little, since you'll probably be listening to the sweet sounds of gunfire in the latest shooter, you're playing, than to the vacuum cleaner inside your PC.
