Honestly said, the large quantity of memory sure comes handy at higher resolutions and/or high level of detail. In this case textures used by the application begin to occupy more than 512MB of memory and the difference in performance sure gets big in favor of the card with more memory. Problem is that these (the 9600 GT series) are mere middle class and their graphic cores just can't keep up with the load. Should you run game like Crysis at resolution of 1900x1200 with maximum details and 4x Antialiasing, probably the difference between 9600 GT 512MB and N9600GT ZILENT 1GB will reach 50%, but when we're talking for average of 4 frames against average of 6 frames per second, does it really matter what the difference is in percentage?!? In resolutions and settings, that allow comfortable gameplay at 30 frames per second, the difference between 1GB and 512MB is insignificant, since the textures are taking under 512MB.
The situation with the 1GB card is bad for sure, the amount of GDDR3 memory radiates lots of heat, the overclock potential is lowered and mostly, THE PRICE OF THE CARD IS INSANE. The 480 leva (~240 Euro), you'll spend for it are to be considered wasted, bottom line is for that much you can get an awesome brand name 8800GT, and even a cheap 8800 GTS. And for about 300leva (~150 Euro) you can get therecently reviewed by us MSI N9600GT T2D512-OC, which we awarded as "RECOMMENDED" since it comes with huge bundle of extra stuff, nice big cooler with 2 heatpipes (although not ZALMAN it's results are pretty close), getting all you need at a great price. So in short, MSI N9600GT ZILENT 1GB is not a good buy. True, it has an excellent cooler giving great potential for core overclock, without compromising with the noise, but the more memory raising the card's price two times, does tend to f**k things up.
Many thanks to our partners from Solytrade, which made this review possible.
