Eight SATA connectors are more than enough for any home user. Considering its unlikely that anyone would use more than 6. In order to test the SATA performance of MSI P45 Platinum, we used one of the six connected to the ICH10, and not one of the two working through JMicron JMB363 (which would inevitably be slightly slower than the main 6). For testing we used the HDTach (version 3), and the tested disk was Western Digital Raptor - 10,000RPM.
It is apparent that the new South bridge is a tad better than the one coming with the high class P35 motherboard.
