Page 6 - Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts

You've must heard of Company of Heroes - famous real time strategy set during WWII. The game dazzles not only with fantastic gameplay, but with incredible graphics too. The engine of Company of Heroes shows complex light scenes, incredible explosions, realistic smoke and more, the appearance of the units is unlimited to level of detail and all that puts the other games in the genre trailing far, far back.

Although a patch for the main game was made available some time ago, adding DirectX 10 effects, only with the release of the "Opposing Fronts" expansion that support was fully included in the package. For our tests we used the integrated "Performance Test", which is very intensive and demanding to the videocards. In it we witness exceptional use of water scenes, complex reflections, lights, explosions, smoke and other effects, so it is made quite evident if your card can handle any game requirement.

Settings as seen on the screenshots are maximum with 4x Antialiasing, and at that only the top-range video controllers are capable of performing splendid.

The game as whole was performing fine with HD 3870 X2. There were a few random lock ups during the benchmark, but that happened not only with HD 3870 X2, but with 8800 Ultra and HD 3870 too, so it's assumed the fault lies not with AMD. ON the other hand the card, center of that review performed well , giving results close to the ones of 8800Ultra and about 20-30% better than HD 3870 - much more easily felt in higher resolution where the more memory matters.
