Page 12 - Conclusion
Resuming what we've seen from XFX GTX 285 1GB, few facts do need annotating upon:
Pros:
- NVIDIA GTX 285 is the fastest single core card on the market
- XFX had supplied a rich bundle and a wonderful game
- It supports NVIDIA PhysX & CUDA,that are used in more and more games and applications
- It allows 3-way SLI builds (should you really, really don't need all that money)
- Its cooling keeps noise levels within acceptable levels even after intense and prolonged load
- Long warranty - 3 years
Cons:
- Somewhat bad price/performance ratio
While NVIDIA keep the crown for single-GPU performance with GeForce GTX 285 1GB, $380 ain't cheap for a video card. Furthermore, Radeon HD 4850 X2 2 GB could be obtained for about hundred less and in some situations it is indeed faster than GTX 285. And while HD 4850 X2 even with the newest BIOS is still noisy, anything but energy efficient, very dependent on software support - games optimized for Crossfire and drivers (something not too many people are willing to depend on and would rather turn down), still a 30% difference in price is something to think about. Anyway NVIDIA GPUs still got CUDA and PhysX and if we consider Far Cry 2 which comes with XFX GTX 285 1GB - it's a really good deal after all. We'd give the card 8.5/10 for performance and no more than 7.5/10 for its bang-for-buck ratio.
Many thanks to our friends from Solytron For supplying us with XFX GTX 285 1GB for this review.
