Page 12 - Conclusion
What more can we say about XFX PV-T88S-FDD4 8800 GS Alpha Dog XXX edition... Let's wrap it up:
Adwantages:
- Greater performance compared to any other 8800 GS
- Non-referent PCB
- Huge overclock potential
- Best performance in the class (not counting 9600 GT, which we will be testing soon)
- XFX quality
Disadvantages
- A temporary HD 3850 foe, since GeForce 9600 GT that is already out is the long term mid class runner.
- High price! (about 350leva (~175 Euro) at the time of this review).
If you are not the type that overclocks, then XFX 8800 GS XXX is a very good choice in the mid class (again not counting 9600 GT, which we will be reviewing in few days) - whether you pick it or HD 3850 512MB depends solely on you, based on what you fancy more NVIDIA or ATI - either way is reasonable. If you are an overclock enthusiast on the other hand it would be wise to get the pure XFX 8800 GS, being considerably cheaper, yet with the same non-referent design and cooler, since you will most probably will be able to get the same frequencies that this card is set to. The alternative HD 3850 512MB (that comes at 325 leva (~160 Euro) for the basic model while being is a bit more than the basic XFX 8800 GS) is the better choice - our Sapphire HD 3850 512MB performed almost equally to XFX 8800 GS Alpha Dog XXX, while still maintained higher overclock potential (since the presented 8800 GS is decently boosted to begin with). A great unknown for the time being is how will 9600 GT fare, being in the same price range... You'd better wait a while, for we are about to find out..
