NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS is based on the very successful G92 core, that gained its fame with 8800 GTS 512 MB and its initial, though a bit cut 8800 GT version, that was available at a great price from October last year. Since we already described in depth the core i our 8800GT G92, 8800GTS G92, the new masters of DirectX 10 review , we won't be going in too much details, but we'll point out the main differences between the three versions so far. In it's full glory G92 has 8 clusters of 16 stream processors or 128 stream units as whole. In 8800 GT one of them is turned off giving us 112. G92 also has 4 rastering blocks, each of them communicating with the memory via 64-bit bus, 256-bit as whole. But in 8800 GS two of the stream clusters and one rastering blocks are turned off, thus limiting the card to 96 stream processors and 192-bit bus. Hopefully the table below will give you a clearer idea:

What is different about XFX PV-T88S-FDD4 8800 GS Alpha Dog XXX Edition is expressed in core frequency. In this card instead of the referent 550MHz ядро we have 680MHz, while the memory is at 800MHz instead of the default 700MHz. Bearing in mind NVIDIA doesn't very well tolerates overclocked cards its known that they give permission only to their biggest manufacturers, the ones capable to give guaranty for their quality. This is due to the problems a overclocked card might have. Understandable a higher frequency leads to more heat, that leads to higher probability of failure, and overall a frequently failing model does tend to tarnish the company's name. We say all this in order to point out how exceptional is 8800 GS Alpha Dog XXX Edition, since the core frequency is raised with over 25% beyond the referent, while the memory is with about 15%.
