Page 3 - Day Two, Day Three

Day Two

ÅÅÅ PC right beside me standing in frontà of the big machine, we will be reading. The card sees the router so it will connect. It did, after some reading at eeeuser.com. Odd thing is that all i did is get it stuck Pending and restart the EEE PC. The card has quite nice reception compared to other notebook*. Once connected it worked like charm and did nothing to upset me. So I set up Skype, Pidgin and Firefox and dug in the net. Contrary to what i expected the monitor at 800õ480 is quite adequate. I don't have to scroll horizontally too often and the vertical scroll is bliss with the interated in the touchpad scroll. Indeed i was so pleased that i spend at least an hour in the net. And then went to Open Office to kill two birds with one stone. I had to do input some text so while doing that I was going to test the keyboard. As you can see my hands are not the smallest ones but the keyboard is. I suspect that a man using all of his 10 figers will find it uncomfortable, not me though, I use only two fingers and it was just fine for me. Even though on a normal keyboard i take care of the Q-I, A-J è Z-M keys using mainly my left hand. The lack of numerical pad is another thing and i need time to adjust to it, yet it is not that big of a problem.

*Toshiba L30 (on the same spot 80% for the Toshiba and 85% for ÅÅÅ PC)

Day Three

Even though the Xandros desktop is nor bad I'm geting a little uneasy. On the third day I was feeling like a fellow that payed millions for an Monet painting yet was forced to look only at a small part of it. That's not going to happen. Reading, reading and some more reading. Aha, so geting normal KDE is easy. Install just a few packets and voila! You get to choose between “Full Desktop” (KDE) and “Easy mode” (Tabs and large icons).

The good thing is that it remembers what mode were you last in and boots in it. And that the Full desktop gives you real freedom. Settings, appearance - anything you like.

Bad thing is that the Launch button is ugly and large. As expected little reading and I fixed that too. Small and with the appearance to my liking. I also created wallpaper for the Desktop, and pull shortcuts for the things i need most.

.

About that time i decided to do something about the constantly popping window asking what to do with the SD card on startup. Turns out i don't have to. I have no idea why it faded, maybe it's so annoying only in Easy mode.
