Page 4 - Day Four, Day Five

Day Four

Glory for the first man to die!

The “ASUS” inscriptions were annoying me too, so i got rid of them.

Then i decided to see how are my USB devices working. Ended up with mixed feelings. 1GB Apacer (AH320) and Samsung flash drives worked just fine. MP3 players Nippon and Beatbox 434 too. As well as my old PhotoClip 6232 (with 256MB Apacer CF card). Still my most used player (Transcend T-Sonic 610) was a no show, well actually i was able to access it but it appear empty. Not that bad, considering the music is kept on the big machine, still i would like to be able to use it as external music storage. But a total no show was my Canon A530. Yet he bothers me not since the SD cards i have (Apacer and Kingston) work perfectly. Turned out a have an 16MB MMC Canon card that works fine too :)

The manifacturers do not provide Linux drivers for the both troublemakers yet it is not impossible that someone out there made some.

Day Five

A lazy day at best. In my lunch break i went to pick uo my new memory. I ordered 2GB (Apacer 667MHz). Lucky me! Not much people there so they even installed it (not that i can't but at least they had proper screwdrivers). After that i went to my favorite bar (which recently got free wireless Internet access) and spend a heavenly half an hour annoying frends trough Pidgin. Tiering, yet not too much is the WiFi management. Something is wrong with it, since I was able to connect to unprotected network only after the Fn+F2 procedure (turning off and on the card).

That night I made software updates all around. Got Skype up to 2.0.0.27 (Beta) for the video. Fixed the Spellcheck in Open Office, which was for reasons beyond my comprehension not working (installed all available English US dictionaries). Looked at all available BIOS updates too. And after long thinking decided to use the official 0703 instead 0511. The main advantages of the unoficial 0511 are the ability to choose between 900 and 630MHz CPU speed as well as geting more brightness from the monitor (which is odd, since i find it very bright at maximum). Still reading on the net was what made me decide not to use it, being not all that stable for the time being. 630MHz are just fine and waiting for stable one that can go 900MHz won't kill me.
