Page 5 - Day Six, Day Seven
Day Six
Time for testing the battery. WiFi running, monitor at 3/4 brightness, sound at about 80%, working LAN controller and SD card reader. With open Firefox, while writing in Office i try to install XMMS since the default plauer in Xandros (Amarok) was not to my liking. Horrible torture, the installing is a matter of simple apt-get install xmms, but finding a repository was another thing. With the aid of run_time trough Skype and with lots of poking i did it. Installed skins too. Then it was about 20 minutes of music for me. Then i had to check the movies. So i transferred one to the SD card and wached it for about 15 minutes. Amazing feelin for a 7” screen. I got in a fight with Skype, for some reason he was not willing to let me use video chat if all devices were set to Default. I had to manualy point out to him which ones to use. And the batery lasted for 2 hours, 15 minutes and 36 secconds before warning me that i have three minutes before shutdown. Four minutes later i pluged in the charder IMHO it could last another ten minutes.
Day Seven
Day two for the battery test, this time at lower consumption. WiFi is off, LAN controller is off, brightnes at 1/2, sound at 40% (not used at all though). I manage to write in Open Office 1 hour, 20 minutes и 15 seconds before run_time to call me for a couple of drinks. Half way to the place he called again asking me to drag the EEE PC along :). Him being far more into Linux than I am, I was waching his reactions closely while he was playing with it. Considering he manage to get to his home server and took a dive in the console i dare to say he loved it. Anelia too. Shame was that we had to turn on the WiFi, thus screwing up the test. Well worth it though, we had a nice talk, quite alot drinks too. :)
And then the battery was charged up and i went home to do the test from the begining. With single opened Open Office in which i was writing this review the batery lasted the formidable 3 hours 21 minutes and 17 seconds before the three minute warning.
