Our longstanding friends from MSI recently updated their range of gaming laptops with the 15.4” GT640X, based on Intel Core i7 and Nvidia GeForce GTS 250M. MSI did change the design from previous products from the line along with showing great will for experimenting with components. Today we find out how deserving of the "flagman" title for the GT and GX MSI series is GT640X.
Our friends from
MSI
were generous in supplying us with test sample of their new gaming 15.4” GT640X laptop. He, being the smaller brother of the top 17” GT740X model, uses the same hardware - Intel Core i7, 720QM(1.6GHz) processor and mobile graphic accelerator nVidia GTS250M along with 1024MBDDR3 on its own. Both models have aluminum bodies which only adds to their high-end classy look.
Older G-series MSI laptops include the very swell priced (around 950$) 15,4” GX623X, based on the quite good Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2.0GHz and ATi Mobility Radeon HD4670 combination. Then again, the bigger brother of the X-sub series, the 17” GX720X uses Intel P8400 2.26GHz and VIDIA Geforce 9600M GT while sold for insignificantly more ~1000$. The next class is occupied by three 15,4” representatives of the GT series - GT627X with Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz and nVIDIA Geforce 9800M GS for about 1250 and the both variations of GT628X with nVIDIA Geforce GTS 160M and option to choose between Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2 GHz and Intel Core 2 Quad Q9000 priced accordingly at 1100$ and 1450$.
The main attendant in this review was through last week available for about 1600$, with its bigger brother GT740X priced at 1850$. At the time of writing this article prices were revised and now GT740X can be obtained for 1250$, but unfortunately up to date price for GT640X was unobtainable (due to it being sold out everywhere), still we expect it having much more acceptable price once it is available again.
